I had an epidural injection for the birth of my first child many years ago. Immediately after the birth, I felt so alone: no baby to hold quite yet and my husband forced to wait in another room. Then the masked anesthesiologist, who had been quietly at my head, gently laid a hand on my forehead and softly said to me: “Nice work.” All these years later that simple touch with its gentle message remains fresh, still giving its gift |
